It is such an unsettling time and we don’t know how the next few weeks are going to unfold for the UK, but in the meantime, I’m trying as much as possible to keep business as usual – whilst sticking to the general sensible advice. I’m also very aware of the effects of this unprecedented time is having on businesses. I always try to support local as much as possible, but they need our support now more than ever.
I have put together the following edit of Mother’s Day gift ideas from two of my clients Upside Down Design and The French House, who are not only clients, but friends, family and my genuine go to for gifts and homewares. I would say more than half of the items in my home and gifts for others come from these two businesses, that we are lucky enough to have in York. For readers further afield, both sell online and can arrange delivery.
Upside Down Design have a great selection of books, including these:
The French House have lots of smaller objects and pretty gifts – not just lovely furniture! Like these pretty picture frames and old French linen napkins.
Upside Down Design have lots of lovely natural material items like these wooden stars to show her she’s your star! And this lovely range of olive wooden utensils and bowls from £4.99.
I love these old glass bottles from The French House. They all slightly vary in shape and some are clear glass, others are tinged green. They would display wonderfully in groups or singly. And these spotty yellow jugs are perfect for spring daffodils!
Upside Down Design source many fairtrade items from artisans across the globe – I love these Batik printed and marbled journals in beautiful colours and their jewellery ranges are beautiful – and change regularly!
All items are current stock and available from www.upsidedowndesign.co.uk and york.thefrenchhouse.co.uk for more details of stock and opening hours. Or follow them on Instagram @upsidedown_design and @thefrenchhouseyork
And finally, Happy Mothers Day to my lovely mum, who’s also grandma to my son Lucas (and Maggie – who’s now too big to sit on Grandma’s lap, much to her annoyance).
However you are celebrating Mother’s Day this weekend, I would like to wish you all a lovely (safe) week and weekend.
