My career began twenty years ago in Dublin. I worked for two national charities on their fundraising portfolios: building up events, corporate partnerships and PR reach and income; ultimately helping them achieve their strategic visions and goals.
In 2006 I set off for the bright lights of London to join the family antique business. For the next eight years I worked alongside my brother, helping to develop the business’s potential as a favourite address for top designers and celebrity clientele. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there – working and living in London; but ultimately decided I wanted to return home to Yorkshire to raise my young son. I bought an old house along with a major renovation project. EVERYTHING needed doing to restore it to its former glory and give back the love it so deserved. My previous years surrounded by antiques and design ideas helped provide me with lots of inspiration during this process.
Career openings in York for someone with expertise in interiors and all things old and French are very limited so, when the opportunity arose to work with York Theatre Royal as their Development Manager I took it. Once again I could put my PR degree and previous years working in the charity sector to good use. I developed corporate relationships for the theatre across the city, increased the number of stage partnerships and sponsors and grew the reputation of the organisation as a charity as well as a landmark theatre for its community.
Fast forward five years; I’m now putting my years of experience to work in my freelance career. I have the opportunity to work again with interior designers, retailers and the family business, and, am also able to utilise my learned expertise in fundraising and the corporate world. How fortunate am I!
